ACCESS TO UNC LIBRARY FROM OFF-CAMPUS

Access from off-campus
If you want to access subscription databases available through the UNC library from off-campus, you need to follow the instructions on this page, including setting up your web browser to access the UNC proxy server. When you access the UNC library through the proxy server, the InfoTrac (or other database) server sees your computer as a UNC computer, and thus, grants you access to the database.

Academic Universe (Lexis/Nexis)
You cannot link directly to the Academic Universe page because the UNC Library link is part of the authentication process. Once on the home page, click on the Legal Research link. To perform tax research, click on the Tax Law link on the legal research page.

CCH Group
This is a free resource provided by CCH. Click on the News Center link at the top for tax news stories and other tax information.

Taxation for Decision Makers
The main items of interest on this site are the chapter self-study quizzes. The provide a good way to test yourself on the chapters, but they are not necessarily like the questions that I will ask on exams.

AICPA STATEMENTS ON STANDARDS FOR TAX SERVICE

The AICPA recently issued the Statements on Standards for Tax Service, which became effective on October 31, 2000. They supercede the AICPA Statements on Responsibilities in Tax Practice (SRTPs).

The list of CPA firms: This site has a list of 2,658 CPA firms and 4,881 offices through out the world. This is a helpful site for students to seek jobs in their interested geographical locations. It offers job placement.

American Taxation Association Home Page: It is a section of AAA. This site contains various articles related to tax. Useful links for tax research are also given like "Tax Research On Web Site". It is a useful site for Tax Students.

AICPA: Useful site for Students, Faculty, CPAs, Accountants and members. This site contains a lot of information regarding Accounting, Taxes, Accounting profession etc. It has a discussion forum. Current Accounting and Tax topics are posted here.

National Association of Tax Practitioners: NATP is an interesting site. It provides contact to forum where members or non- members can ask questions. You have to pay for your question(s). It is good for very technical kind of question(s).

TITLE 26 - INTERNAL REVENUE CODE: NOT CURRENT!, however, it is organized in a very efficient manner. The Table of Contents makes it easy to see the structure of the Code.

United States Code: This site contains a complete listing of all titles. Good for those who have any interest in U.S law. The Internal Revenue Code is Title 26. It is not completely up to date, but you there is an updates link in every Code section so you can see if the law has been modified by current legislation.

Find Law: If you are looking for any thing related to law, you can go ahead and check this site. It includes Commercial law, Tax law etc. Most of the material is available in the form of question and answer and easy to understand. Free registration is also available.

Accounting Student's News letter: You can get important information you need as an Accounting students. It provides news about Accounting profession, Professional exams, Career building, and all sort of other news related with Accounting Profession.

TAX RETURN PREPARATION SOFTWARE

TaxAct
Free tax return preparation software from 2nd Story.  Similar in feel to TurboTax. It was fairly easy to use.  You can upgrade to the deluxe version and they also have a Colorado State version. They also have academic pricing (discounts for students).
